DESCRIPTION

This project seeks to investigate systems and elements that allow reducing the energy consumption of data capture nodes and wireless transmission of information in IoT applications. Subsequently, a low-consumption node will be developed that allows information to be transmitted according to LP (Low Power) radio frequency protocols.
The nodes that are currently used to capture data (for example, through sensors), and its subsequent transmission to some data storage and management system, usually use industrial Wi-Fi with the cost and electrical consumption that it entails. The nodes will use a radio frequency communication protocol that transmits the 868 MHz spectrum, which allows distances of up to 100 meters to be covered, with intermediate obstacles, and at a much lower cost.
A 'plug and play' installation will be proposed. As it does not require the assembly of external electrical panels, the system can be implemented more easily, even being mounted inside the machine panel itself. By communicating wirelessly, we also avoid installing network cabling along the plants/lines. This solution does not depend on the stocks and delivery times that the automation sector is currently suffering due to the shortage of components.

- Design signal conditioning electronics to be able to connect industrial signals (both inputs and outputs) to a Low Power electronic system using passive components that integrate with the node and have a consumption in the order of microamperes.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Año 2024:
- A low-consumption data capture and communication node prototype has been obtained. Embedded signal conditioning electronics have been implemented, specially designed to meet industry specifications. In the case of machine connections, the signals are optocoupled so as not to interfere, under any circumstances, with the operation of the machine or product to be monitored. It can be adapted to any specific requirement.

- A pilot demonstration has been carried out applied to a manufacturing process in a simulated industrial environment in the AIDIMME laboratory. To do this, a PLC simulating a real machine has been set up and the I/Os have been connected.

- Systems and elements have been investigated to reduce the energy consumption of data capture nodes and wireless transmission of information in IoT applications.

- A low-power node has been developed that allows information to be transmitted using LP (Low Power) radio frequency protocols.

- In addition, signal conditioning electronics have been designed to be able to connect industrial signals (both inputs and outputs) to a Low Power electronic system using passive components that integrate with the node and have a consumption in the order of microamps.
