"FEDER CIMERAI" CIMERAI - CIRCULARITY OF METALS IN HIGH IMPACT WASTE DESCRIPTION The increase in demand for electric vehicles, as well as for electrical and electronic equipment (AEE), implies the generation of a large amount of hazardous waste at the end of its useful life, in addition to assuming a significant loss of the valuable resources of which it is composed. This type of waste is characterized by a variable composition, which makes its recovery complex, but it is also characterized by having a high content of metals of interest. Among these metals are critical raw materials (Li, Co, graphite, bauxite according to the 2020 list), base metals (Cu, Al, Zn, Ni) and precious metals (Au, Ag, Pt...), among the latter also those considered critical for the EU (Platinum group metals). This research project proposes the development of a methodology and the creation of a versatile prototype that incorporates different processes with low environmental impact for the sequential extraction of metals from high added value waste. OBJECTIVES The main objective of the project is to obtain a pilot for the effective recovery of metals from high-impact waste. The pilot will include a range of hydrometallurgical technologies such as bioleaching, electroleaching and sustainable leaching for the recovery of metallic waste. Although the technology is intended to be horizontal for the treatment of metallic waste, there are references and previous work carried out on lithium ion battery waste through the RECIBAT and RAEES project and metallic plastics through the LIMIX project.
