"AVI - EDIFBIO"

AVI - EDIFBIO - APPLICATION OF BIOMATERIALS AND RCD IN PREFABRICATED ELEMENTS OF INTERIOR COVERING OF BUILDINGS

DESCRIPTION

The project delves into the development and application of highly sustainable prefabricated elements in the interior envelope of buildings with insulation and comfort functions. Their manufacture is based on plant fibers typical of the CV without industrial use and recycled materials from construction demolition (RCD), based on developments already carried out by IT in previous projects.

The reference prefabricated element is composed of rice husk insulation (very common waste in the CV), and mortar coating made with recycled sand. The project will analyze modifications in its composition to improve its sustainability, including the use of natural binders and other abundant and common plant fibers in the Community. On the other hand, the advantage of prefabrication is manifested in easy installation on site, which reduces labor time, execution time and increases the safety of the operators.

The project allows companies to be shown the possibilities and benefits of applying highly sustainable elements in new construction and rehabilitation aimed at improving efficiency and thermal, acoustic and air quality comfort for its inhabitants, offering good performance against fire and being easy to install.

OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the project is to strengthen and transfer knowledge in the use of non-forest biomaterials and recycled materials for their application in buildings as interior lining, with functionalities such that they allow achieving good benefits in basic pillars of progress and innovation in the sector. construction: comfort and efficiency of the building (acoustic, thermal and air), sustainability, quality of materials, safety and speed of installation.

In this way, it seeks to promote the circularity of materials and products, achieving good mechanical performance, durability and recyclability, as well as increasing the industrialization of the construction sector.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2022: In this phase, combinations of three types of fibers and three types of bio-adhesives were analyzed. For each combination, the following variables were studied: percentage of binder, addition of water, pressing parameters, curing conditions... The objective of the tests was to obtain a consistent and solid sample that allowed its manipulation and with the appropriate conductivity characteristics. .
The first result of the analysis is the lower agglomerate capacity of bioadhesives compared to polyurethanes, and therefore the adhesive dosage increases significantly compared to plastic adhesives. Another aspect observed was that the increase in thickness made drying and subsequent cohesion difficult. This was influenced by the amount of adhesive. Initially, we worked with lower thicknesses and little by little it was increased to 5 cm, which allowed adequate transmittance to be obtained.
The influence of the density of the samples is observed in the results of the conductivity test. The morphology of the plant fibers determines the consistency and density, with those of Arundo Donax being denser, followed by rice husk and posidonia.
The connection of the insulators and their coating by natural curing of the RCD mortar was the subject of study, deducing that the placement and curing procedure had to be carried out with greater caution in handling, any moisture that could affect the properties of the insulators had to disappear.
Finally, as a result of the analysis of the possible locations for the selection of the most appropriate location that allows the monitoring and demonstration of the panels, the "measuring box" and the panel configuration are designed.
