This depends on the amount of water vapor that passes through the material, its temperature gradient, its own nature and the arrangement of the different layers that make it up. That is why the MATLIG 2020 project seeks to optimize lightened materials and their coatings, allowing diffusion control and condensation limitation, avoiding deterioration and loss of thermal performance in construction systems. OBJECTIVESDevelopment of lightweight materials suitable for use in construction, especially taking into account their properties of water vapor transmission. EXPLANATORY VIDEORESULTS OBTAINEDYear 2020: To guarantee thermal comfort in the building, it is essential to have enclosures that provide adequate thermal insulation. In this sense, it is critical to have reliable values of the thermal properties of the materials to be selected, such as the resistance factor to water vapor (µ) or the thickness of the air layer equivalent to the diffusion of water vapor. , sd (m), that allow a correct modeling. From the results obtained, it is clear that there are significant discrepancies between the generic tabulated values that appear in the regulations with respect to the values measured experimentally. It is for this reason that a characterization of the materials put into work is recommended to obtain control and correctly estimate the hygrothermal behavior of the enclosures used in each case. It should be noted that there is a wide range of regulations for the characterization of materials based on their nature and use, and that the results obtained are not comparable in all cases. Knowledge of the factors involved in water vapor transmission processes, as well as everything related to the composition and structure of materials in relation to water vapor permeability, can allow the formulation and development of optimized innovative materials. In general, high hydrophobicity and high water vapor permeability are sought as desirable requirements. The behavior of different families of materials of interest has been analyzed, such as wood-derived boards, coatings for use in wood, protective façade coatings, and thermal insulators, allowing information to be obtained about their behavior under different environmental conditions.
