DESCRIPTION

This line addresses research around the development of products and systems (design, calculation, analysis, simulation, new functionalities), covering lines of work such as:
Functional and topological optimization
Digital modeling of products and processes
Advanced design solutions for traditional products

OBJECTIVES

The aim of the project is to investigate the generation of simulation models that reproduce and can predict the behavior of materials and products subjected to severe conditions in service. Specifically, nickel-based superalloys are studied, which are of great interest in sectors such as petrochemical, nuclear, thermal power plants, aeronautics and aerospace, since they present good performance under conditions of high pressure, temperature and corrosion.

The interest of the project lies in the study of welded joints, in which crack advances and / or embrittlement effects can occur due to hydrogen produced in corrosive environments and its implementation in numerical analysis models. This phenomenon is enhanced by temperature.

As the prediction of this failure is not contemplated in the material models used in the simulation by finite elements, it is proposed to carry out studies, based on instrumented tests on specimens and numerical simulations to try to obtain a model that reflects the law of behavior that best conforms to the tests performed. The objective is to reproduce the conditions in which the failure event or phenomenon that is sought occurs occurs.

These studies are not common in the industry, but enter the field of investigations of the behavior of materials. These studies are done due to the difficulty of implementing the tests in laboratories, and correlating them with undefined models for each material, etc.
