"19-20 PHOTOGRAPHER"PHOTOGRAPHEN- DESIGN OF A HIGH EFFICIENCY CATALYTIC REACTOR BASED ON GRAPHENE AND PHOTOCATALYTIC OXIDES GIVEN FOR THE TREATMENT OF REFRACTORY POLLUTANTS IN WATER DESCRIPTIONA prototype photocatalytic reactor will be designed and manufactured using the photocatalysts developed in this project (TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles doped with metal ions (M) and supported on reduced graphene oxide (RGO)). Doping with metal ions reduces the bandgap of the photocatalyst and increases the lifetime of the electron / hole pair. The RGO will have several functions; It acts as a catalyst support thanks to its high surface area. In addition, the electrical conductivity of the RGO allows the delocalization of the electrons generated by photocatalysis, which increases the lifetime of the electron / hole pair and the efficiency of the photocatalytic process. OBJECTIVESThe general objective of the project is to develop a prototype of photocatalytic reactor with improved efficiency, based on TiO2 and / or ZnO catalysts deposited on reduced graphene oxide, doped with metal ions and that will employ innovative techniques for physical support (additive manufacturing, immersion and sprayed). Within the catalysts to be developed for ZnO, ZnO from a material recovery of a non-ferrous metal residue (www.lifegreenzo.eu) will be used. The introduction of metal ions in the photocatalyst structure will result in a decrease in bandgap (energy needed to activate the photocatalyst). When the bandgap decreases, there will be a shift in the activation of the catalyst from the UV to the visible one, absorbing a greater range of wavelengths and therefore making the photocatalyst more efficient. The presence of dopants and reduced graphene oxide will increase the lifetime of the electron / hole pair generated by photocatalysis. By increasing the life time of these species, the efficiency of the photocatalytic process will increase. The efficiency of the prototype will be tested with contaminated effluents from different industries (cardboard, chemical, metal processing, wastewater).
