"FUNTEXCAL II"FUNCTIONALIZATION OF ADHESIVED TEXTILE STRUCTURES FOR THE TEXTILE, FOOTWEAR AND FURNITURE SECTORS DESCRIPTIONTextiles, footwear and furniture make up important sectors in the Valencian economy, being mainly formed by SMEs that currently face common challenges: growing imports from emerging countries, competition from technical products - European - and some stagnation of domestic demand. Likewise, the severe legislation on energy / water / waste is forcing SMEs to diversify, moving them to develop innovative products / processes where functionality + sustainability are taken into account. OBJECTIVESBased on AITEX / INESCOP results of the annuity I, FUNTEXCAL II states: RESULTS OBTAINED2016 Year: The elaboration of a piece of furniture can be a complex process that, in many occasions, requires several manufacturing stages in which materials of very diverse nature are combined, with specific properties and functions. The use of suitable adhesives for the material, the manufacturing process itself and the requirements for the use of the final product, implies the implication of a large number of factors that must be considered in the selection of the gluing process, in order to guarantee an appropriate adhesion of the components that make it up. The processes of gluing of the furniture and in particular of the sector of the furniture of seat and rest, have to adapt to the new designs and technological innovations that the leading companies in constant development require, always respecting the safety of the user and the environment. In this sense, the participation of AIDIMME in the Funtexcal II project in this 2016 exercise has led to the validation and confirmation that the developed hotmelt polyurethane reactive adhesives (HMPUR) can be a valid alternative in the gluing of functional textile structures and Flexible cellular polymeric materials applied as fillers. 3 WORK PACK Functionalized adhesive structures. Flammability and antibacterial efficacy Although the incorporation of functional additives to these adhesives is adequate and feasible, tests of flammability and bacterial efficiency do not give significant behavioral differences. The results obtained in structures adhesive with flame resistant and antibacterial additives have not shown substantial improvements in the behavior of the materials, so that the influence of the materials per se on such properties may be, in some cases relevant. It is noteworthy that the behavior against cigarette resistance, both in samples with adhesive treated or not treated against fire, the result is good, while the results of both types of samples when the test becomes more aggressive, using a called as a source of fire, the result is of no resistance. Considering the behavior against microorganisms, tissues adhered with treated or untreated adhesive against these agents, have microbial growth, regardless of their treatment. This shows that the adhesive has a much lower influence on the behavior against fire and against microorganisms than the materials themselves, since these are much closer to the aggressor. In any case, we could continue studying in the future, new additives or higher concentrations, since it has started from relatively low percentages of these additives so as not to hide other benefits of adhesives. 4 WORK PACK Validation of comfort, use, durability and VOC emission properties Comfort properties considering thermal inertia and the propensity of electrostatic charges are not diminished by the use of hotmelt reactive polyurethane adhesives and, in general, the behavior of Adhesive structures is valid. Regarding the emission of VOCs, since it is based on a hot melt adhesive with a solids content of 100%, the only volatile organic components are those from monomers that remain in the polymer together with some type of plasticizer or additive, it can be Consider that all results are low, especially when compared to the other families of upholstered furniture adhesives. WORK PACKAGE 5 Pre-study of market and sectoral impacts In order to assess the sectoral impact of HOTMELT adhesives in different sectors, a market pre-study was developed. First, the different actors in the value chain were identified in the reference sectors (upholstery, mattresses, wood, furniture, footwear and textiles), detailing in each case the main actors according to the different segments involved. This allowed identifying the reference companies in the case of chemical suppliers, manufacturers of glues and adhesives with HOTMELT product, manufacturers of industrial machinery, manufacturers of semi-finished products and manufacturers of finished products, thus obtaining a list of target companies for the realization of the study. Secondly, and through a self-administered, semi-structured survey, current and potential uses were identified in the different sectors (textile, footwear and wood-furniture), as well as in the adhesive, chemical and related sectors.
