RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE ANCHORAGES FOR TEMPORARY WOOD CONSTRUCTIONS

DESCRIPTION

The general objective of the project is to investigate and develop innovative mechanical anchors that can be used in general in any temporary wooden construction. Some examples of temporary constructions are pavilions, shelters, exhibition fairs, sports facilities, concert structures, hotel extensions for the summer season, mobile bullring, scaffolding and temporary walkways. All these constructions must meet very strict requirements: reduced cost, simple assembly, lightness, durability and flexibility in the creation of forms for different uses. The anchors will allow architects and engineers to use a single system of connections in all parts of a temporary wooden construction.

These anchors are intended to advance in the field of wood R&D as engineering and architecture material, as well as to encourage the use of this sustainable material and its application to new fields where it can be technically, industrially and economically competitive.

OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the project is to investigate and develop innovative mechanical anchors, specifically designed to work in conjunction with wood and take advantage of its characteristics, which allow architects and engineers to use a single connection system in all parts of a temporary wooden construction .
The specific objectives planned for the project are the following:

1) Determine and analyze the most frequent temporary constructions and their connection systems. Determine the present and future needs of these constructions.
2) Design, based on previous research and calculations and simulations by finite elements, innovative mechanical anchoring systems perfectly compatible with wood. These designs should allow the execution of a wide variety of temporary, safe, durable, easy to assemble, lightweight and versatile constructions.
3) Build laboratory prototypes of anchoring systems suitable for the most frequent temporary structures, based on the previous designs.
4) Mechanically characterize the laboratory prototypes through tests, in accordance with the test standards for use in construction.
5) Generate industrial designs of anchor systems, based on test results.
6) Integrate the anchorage systems developed in a complete system of assembly and installation of temporary wooden constructions.
7) Build an industrial prototype anchor system for temporary wooden constructions.
8) Disseminate the project and its results. Transfer the developed technology to companies in the sectors of interest.
