FGVA SUR0 . NATURAL CORROSION INHIBITION ADDITIVES AND COATINGS




DESCRIPTION

Corrosion inhibitors are substances that in small concentrations slow or prevent the degradation of metals. The degree of inhibition depends on the nature of the metal and the type of medium.

Currently, many of the corrosion inhibitors used in metal coatings are toxic compounds. However, growing awareness of health and environmental risks has led to interest in finding non-toxic and environmentally acceptable corrosion inhibitors.

Therefore, the NATURINOX project consists of obtaining anticorrosive additives using extracts from natural waste; and in formulating anticorrosive coatings, incorporating the additives developed in the project, for metal surfaces.

Also, it is intended to relate the standardized test, previously used in the CORCLIM project, with the different corrosivity categories. This will allow us to simulate, approximately in the laboratory, the progress of corrosion in a given area during the first year of exposure. In this way, tests can be carried out on different anti-corrosion coatings in order to select the most appropriate one depending on where you want to install it.

OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the NATURINOX project is the development of anticorrosive coatings for steel. The anticorrosive properties will be achieved by previously obtaining additives from extracts of natural waste. The functionality of these surfaces will increase the service time of metal parts that are exposed to aggressive atmospheric environments and reduce the costs associated with structural deterioration.


To achieve this main objective, the specific objectives are:

- Select natural waste with anticorrosive properties and obtain its extract.

- Formulate coatings for steel and add them with natural extracts with anticorrosive properties, previously obtained.

- Carry out standardized accelerated corrosion tests in the laboratory, to verify the effectiveness of coatings with anticorrosive properties developed for steel. In this way, the aim is to simulate the behavior against corrosion during the first year of exposure outdoors.
