FGVA BIO0 - SISPATINT 2023 - TEST, CONFIGURATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE PATINT SYSTEM, AND STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF BIOMATERIALS AND WOOD AND DERIVATIVE STRUCTURES

DESCRIPTION

The SISPATINT 2023 project, belonging to the AIDIMME Biomaterials R&D line, consists of several applied research activities to test, configure and improve the PATINT system, as well as activities for the study and analysis of biomaterials and wooden structures and derivatives.

The innovative PATINT system is an advanced tool for monitoring in real time, preventively and automatically, wood in works of art, heritage buildings and new construction. This highly flexible and scalable system will be compatible with Smart Cities, Smart Islands and Smart Heritage platforms. In the new architecture that is being developed, the sensors will directly access the cloud (cloud computing).

Due to the great novelty that the use of ultra-low consumption advanced WiFi components implies for applications such as those of PATINT, the project is developing new input/power stages and new printed boards for its sensor and communication modules.

OBJECTIVES

1) Implementation, programming, configuration, testing and improvement of the new architecture of the PATINT system, based on advanced WiFi components with ultra-low energy consumption.
2) Design and implementation of a monitoring platform for the PATINT system in the cloud, so that it can be easily integrated with Smart Cities, Smart Islands and Smart Heritage environments, as well as with future advances in the field of smart cities. This platform will be in charge of collecting the data from the WiFi sensor nodes in the cloud and visualizing them; and it will be designed and implemented as: a) Progressive web application, accessible from computers, tablets and mobile devices; b) Apps for Android and iPhone.
3) Development, configuration and testing of a complete network of wood monitoring sensors, with the new system architecture, in works of art and heritage constructions and new construction.
4) Study and analysis of biomaterials (lignocellulosic, composites, etc.).
5) Analysis, characterization and repair of wooden structures and derived materials.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2023: The new power stage of the DIPP_WIFI module of the PATINT sensor nodes was developed and tested, and extensive energy consumption tests were carried out. These tests lasted for several months in a row, in order to determine how the progressive loss of battery charge influences consumption.

Once the exhaustive energy consumption tests were carried out with the new input stage of the DIPP_WIFI module and the results were analyzed, the DIPP_WIFI and DIPP_SENS modules were implemented on final printed boards, based on the new electronic designs developed. The final modules were programmed, configured and tested.

Communication of the DIPP_SENS module with the microcontroller of the DIPP_WIFI module was established through an I2C bus.

For communication between the DIPP_WIFI module and the cloud, after analyzing several options and doing some previous performance tests, the MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) protocol was chosen, a very lightweight and “Machine to Machine” (M2M) protocol. Designed for embedded systems, which are typically based on resource-limited devices.

The source code that implements this MQTT protocol was developed for the case of PATINT sensor nodes. Likewise, tests of the new system architecture were carried out, which were successful.
