DESCRIPTION Generation of a system that allows the development and circulation of products with mainly melamine surfaces, safe for citizens. Generate a tool that reliably determines which products can meet the safety criteria of the legislation, as well as help to formulate products in accordance with said laws. OBJECTIVES Study and/or investigation of an analytical method for the measurement of free melamine in aminoplast resins (unreacted melamine) present in decorative laminates, wood-based panels, load-bearing wood components, cabinets and furniture, due to the incorporation of melamine on the SVHC candidate list (substances of very high concern). Project Number: 22300008 Grant Agreement: IMAMCA/2023/2 Duration: From 01/01/2023 to 31/12/2023 Coordinated in AIDIMME by: FERNANDEZ ORTIZ,NURIA R&D Line: MATERIALS TOXICITY RESULTS OBTAINED Year 2023: Analytical methods based on liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD) have been used, developed from the application of a sustainable methodology, that is, reducing both the economic and environmental impact. The extraction methods developed in the first part of the project have been formulated and executed for the determination of melamine since it is a substance harmful to health in everyday materials. One of the first differences observed in the different melamine extraction methods in samples intended for habitat is the organic solvent used. The water content in the solvent also influenced since melamine is more soluble in higher percentages of water. Additionally, other factors such as the interaction with other components of the sample, the presence of impurities or contaminants, and the specific properties of the extraction method also play a role in this difference. On the other hand, in extraction models in which only water was used, temperature and the use of ultrasound are key aspects that can influence. The influence of the pH of the medium on the extraction of melamine in samples destined for the habitat is a topic of great importance in the field of analytical chemistry and especially if we talk about citizen safety. The pH of the medium plays an important role in the efficiency and selectivity of melamine extraction since it affects the ionization and solubility of melamine in the solvent used. VOCs: Synthetic foams can release VOCs as a result of manufacturing processes or due to material degradation over time. The results of these have been below the limit. The decrease in VOC emissions over time may be due to several factors. One of them is the oxidation of VOCs in the atmosphere, which can reduce their concentration over time. These types of findings highlight the importance of considering the temporal context and possible external influences when interpreting VOC measurements.
