"PLACE"

PLACE - DEVELOPMENT OF AN ECODISE COLLABORATIVE PLATFORM FOR THE URBAN FURNITURE SECTOR

DESCRIPTION

The PLACE-PLA Ecological Purchase Platform / Ecodesign Collaborative Platform project project consists in the development of a collaborative platform that encourages ECOLOGICAL PUBLIC PURCHASE by administrations or large buyers (demand) and facilitates the incorporation of these environmental requirements –a through ecodesign- in companies (the offer). The introduction of eco-design in companies will not only make companies in the "contract" sector more competitive, but will also have a tractor effect on the rest of the market. For the development of this methodology, the cooperation of the companies of the Valencian Community is essential through the contribution, not only of case studies but of all the information related to their productive process.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the project is to develop a collaborative computer tool that encourages green public procurement by administrations or large buyers (demand) and facilitates the incorporation of these environmental requirements in companies (supply).

The scientific objectives are:
• Identify the most feasible ecodesign strategies for this type of product in terms of lower impact materials, best available techniques, etc.
• Establish the various environmental scenarios for the materials / processes involved in the life cycle of these products based on whether or not they meet the various criteria.
• Create life cycle inventories for the various scenarios proposed and collaborate with companies to adapt them to the reality of the industries of the Valencian Community.
• Establish / adapt [BTP1] a methodology based on the simplified life cycle analysis (TOPSIS), to obtain a score based on compliance with the established product environmental criteria.

The objectives of PLACE in terms of functionality are:
• Create an initial database of materials and best techniques available in a collaborative space where any company can promote its materials and / or environmental technology solutions or manufacturers can find more sustainable alternatives.
• Facilitate the inclusion of environmental criteria in the specifications for the purchase or eco-design of street furniture.
• Establish possible additional environmental criteria, referring to the company.
• Propose documentation to evidence compliance with these criteria.
• Have a tool that allows comparing in a simple way (single score) but rigorous (based on life cycle analysis) different proposals that opt for the same contest, or different alternative designs to see the improvement achieved in an eco-design process .
• As a meeting place, PLACE is in favor of environmental communication, and therefore one of its objectives is to promote the use of ecolabels through various mechanisms:
• Type I (ISO 14024): considering criteria that assess that the product or parts thereof have them, or that some of the criteria are in turn requirements thereof, thus facilitating their obtaining.
• Type II (ISO 14021): Based on the assessment of compliance with the requirements, guidelines are given and the company makes it easier to carry out environmental self-declarations.
• Type III (ISO 14025): the most advanced level of the tool allows to attach environmental product declarations (DAP), which must be made specifically by the project partners for collaborating companies. These DAPs will be validated by a partner who will act as an independent third party.
• Creation of showrooms: physical spaces in each IITT where to show the experiences developed in the project
To fulfill the objective of guaranteeing the maximum utility of PLACE, the main features of the platform will be:
• Intuitive: that the interfaces are pleasing to the eye and their use is intuitive, with help available and quick in obtaining results.
• Reliable: that the sources of information provided by the platform are reliable.
• Customized: it will be adapted to the characteristics of the urban furniture sector.
• Adaptive: it will have the capacity to adapt to all types of companies involved in the urban furniture sector.
• Based on experiences: through the interconnection between companies, suppliers, technicians, designers, etc ..., which will improve products from various horizons.
• Progressive: it will be a tool that feeds back, from new experiences it is able to improve to produce more sustainable products.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2020: The objective of the project has been the development of a collaborative computer tool that promotes ecological public purchasing by administrations or large buyers (demand) and facilitates the incorporation of said environmental requirements in companies (supply). The introduction of ecodesign in companies makes companies dedicated to the public procurement sector more competitive, and promotes a tractor effect on the rest of the market. PLACE, the Ecological Purchasing Platform (when viewed from the buyer's side) or Collaborative Ecodesign Platform (if viewed from the seller's or manufacturer's perspective), has sought to be a meeting point for environmental improvement.
