IMPLAVET - GENERATION OF AN INNOVATIVE LINE OF IMPLANTS FOR VETERINARY MANUFACTURED BY ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGIES OF PRINTING 3D OF TITANIUM

DESCRIPTION

The project proposes the generation of an innovative line of veterinary implants manufactured using additive 3D titanium printing technologies. IMPLAVET will focus on the development and validation for its placing on the market of two products.
• Hip prostheses for dogs that improve the quality of life of animals affected by osteo-articular degenerative diseases of the hip.
• Osteosynthesis plates adapted to the anatomical area of the animals.

OBJECTIVES

Through the application of AF techniques and a specific methodology, the project seeks to meet the following objectives
Development of an information capture, design and manufacturing operation for the generation of new dog prostheses,
Obtain in any case optimized geometries that allow adaptation and compatibility with mini-invasive approaches.
Application of the same methodology for the development of surgical instruments.

Project Number: 21580017
Grant Agreement: RTC-2015-3450-1
Duration: From 01/09/2015 to 03/08/2017

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2018: IMPLAVET incorporates as a technological novelty in the veterinary sector the use of additive technologies, which enables the production of personalized implants or short series in a profitable way and with acceptable delivery times. Furthermore, this manufacturing technology allows the generation of osseointegrating structures that significantly increase the possibilities of fixation of the implant to the bone.
A methodology has been developed that additionally solves one of the problems in the field of veterinary implants: the fact that the designs are mostly based on designs for humans, without taking into account the enormous biomechanical differences between both species.
IMPLAVET has focused on the development and validation of two products with wide acceptance and exploitation potential in the orthopedic veterinary sector. Thanks to this, the aim is to have a new innovative line of products within the veterinary field. Currently, most of the existing developments in the Spanish veterinary implant market are imported, and do not provide solutions as adapted to the needs of users as the products that have been developed in this project, so this constitutes a important contribution to improving the technological competitiveness of the national industry, through the Spanish company AMES.
