"DISSWELD"

DISSWELD - DEVELOPMENT OF LASER-BASED DISIMILAR WELDS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIGHT STRUCTURES IN AUTOMOTIVE

DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the DISSWELD project is to obtain dissimilar plates intended for the automotive auxiliary sector by means of a welded laser joint made of aluminum steel material. The growing demand of the sector to reduce pollutant gases and the weight of transport vehicles has forced companies to innovate in terms of joining methods and materials used. Fruit of this are the manufacturing methods called Tailor Welded Blanks and the advancement of high strength steels. Through these techniques we can reduce weight and increase resistance. The result of this manufacturing philosophy is to increase weight reduction even further by implementing aluminum as a key material due to its excellent properties of mechanical strength and lightness. During the execution of the project it is intended to find the most suitable methods for welding aluminum and steel sheets by laser welding. The project opens a new opportunity to manufacture hybrid components capable of granting a combination of capabilities not yet present in the industry. This project aims to make known to the companies of the Valencian Community both technical and economic data and thus be able to justify the decision to undertake production processes that allow them to be at the forefront of the use of dissimilar materials. Obviously those companies that manage to position themselves in this field will have a privileged position in the future of the metalworking industry.

OBJECTIVES

The general objective is to achieve dissimilar welding of high strength steels and light alloys, such as aluminum alloys, by laser welding. During the analysis of the welded alloys, the parameters will be related to the variables that are available for the chemical and metallurgical composition of the materials to be joined. These variables will be based mainly on the energy of the beam, the contribution metal to achieve welding, the microstructure of both high strength steels and aluminum and the layers of coatings that have the materials to be joined. The evaluation of the quality of the welded joints will allow us to decide which is the most suitable method to join both materials in order to be able to be implanted in the various production chains of automobile manufacturers as a final product by means of laser welding, since this welding technique It is consolidating itself as the best for the union of this type of hybrid welding.
