"AVI - TABYOL" AVI - TABIOL - RESEARCH ON THE INDUSTRIAL RECOVERY OF NATIVE BIOMASS WASTE AND COTTON FROM THE TEXTILE SECTOR THROUGH A HYDROTHERMAL CARBONIZATION PROCESS FOR THE FURNITURE AND CONSTRUCTION SECTORS. DESCRIPTION The Valencian Community has large areas dedicated to agriculture and Mediterranean mountains, where there are vegetable accumulations that can cause serious problems in the conservation of the environment (fires, plagues, release of CO2 due to its elimination by combustion, etc.) On the other hand, there is the waste generated in industries in the Valencian Community. Among them, the textile industry stands out, which is highly polluting and generates a large amount of waste from the manufacture of clothing, footwear or sheets, among others. To this must be added the textiles discarded by households. Due to the current way of life, the amount of this waste generated increases each year, aggravating the problem more and more. Currently, no widespread recovery has been found for this waste and it ends up in landfills or by burning. For this reason, it is necessary to seek new techniques for revaluing this waste and thus avoid CO2 emissions from its combustion and counteract the high polluting effect that the textile industry has on the environment. It is in this context that the TABIOL project arises, in which it is intended to obtain light boards with insulating properties from the "hydrochar" from the Hydrothermal Carbonization of the residues, on the one hand, from the pruning of the olive tree, on the other hand, biomass waste from pine halepensis and, finally, waste from the textile sector, all of which are considered important waste in the Valencian Community. These "eco"-boards will provide, both to the construction sector and to the wood and furniture sector, more sustainable and biodegradable materials. Of which, in turn, their recycling and reuse as new boards at the end of their useful life will be studied, so that they can increase it and contribute to a greater extent to the circular economy. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the project are: - Develop Hydrothermal Carbonization processes to obtain an industrially usable optimized solid part (hydrochar). - Develop processes and materials for use in the furniture and construction sectors, focusing on the development of light boards. - Materialize both hydrochar and boards developed on a laboratory scale on an industrial scale. - Study the recycling of the boards obtained. A study of the state of the art has been carried out to know, with an approximate quantification, the availability of residual biomass and textile waste, and the nature of its current management, as well as the obtaining and characterization of biomass waste and the sector. textile, necessary as a starting point for the project. The work package for the development and optimization of the Hydrothermal Carbonization and post-treatment process has begun, which addresses the first step for production, in which two stages can be differentiated, hydrothermal carbonization and the finishing of the carbonaceous material. On the other hand, the tasks corresponding to the study of post-treatment in the presence of water and the hydrothermal transformation of cotton from the textile sector on a laboratory scale, respectively, are progressing according to the initial planning of the project. For the study of post-treatment in the presence of water, a tubular reactor has been adapted to supply water and its correct operation has been confirmed. Regarding the transformation of cotton, a series of tests were carried out with pure cotton and the product was characterized by elemental analysis. Finally, the process of manufacturing the products and obtaining samples on a laboratory scale has begun to be investigated.
