"ECOMARSI"

ECOMARSI - DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE CONSUMER PRODUCTS: CIRCULAR ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENTAL MARKING AND INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS IN TRACTOR SECTORS OF THE VALENCIAN COMMUNITY

DESCRIPTION

The EcoMARSI project aims to develop sustainable consumer products applying the concepts of Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis. For this, different secondary raw materials (oxides and metals of Zn and Cu) will be obtained, through innovative technologies, from waste and wastewater from two tractor sectors of the Valencian Community such as Children's Product and Leisure (toy) and the metal mechanic. The environmental aspects considered (waste and wastewater) are going to be those that, within the industrial sectors studied, do not have a sustainable solution in their management at present, since either they are being taken to authorized landfills or they are being dumped. to sewerage networks or public waterways that, although the applicable legislation is being complied with, implies an inefficiency in their use, since the resources contained therein are being wasted.
To obtain the raw materials, among other techniques, tangential filtration technologies will be used using ceramic membranes based on clay materials, designed and manufactured to measure for these developments.
These secondary raw materials will be validated in their use, in various consumer products of the different participating sectors (children's and leisure products, ceramic and metalworking), as demonstrators, in order to evaluate their viability. In addition, it is intended to promote the environmental marking of the product as an environmental marketing tool, which is applicable to the consumer products (demonstrators) that are going to be developed. As well as the criteria for the definition of an EcoMARSI ecolabel for them will be defined.

OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the project is to obtain sustainable consumer products (demonstrators), applying the concepts of circular economy and industrial symbiosis between three tractor sectors of the Valencian Community such as children's and leisure products (toys), metalworking and ceramics. For this, innovative technologies will be applied on various environmental aspects (waste and wastewater) of two of the sectors, to obtain secondary raw materials (zinc and copper compounds) that will be used for the manufacture of different consumer products. of the sectors involved. In addition, an environmental marketing tool such as environmental product markings will be used to define an ecolabel for the products developed.

The specific objectives are detailed below:
- Identify and characterize different streams (waste and / or wastewater) in each sector, with potential for valorization in their metallic composition, mainly zinc and copper.
- Define and establish the best applicable technology to carry out said valuation.
- Define the starting requirements for secondary raw materials according to each demonstrator (consumer product to be developed).
- Obtain the secondary raw materials of interest from zinc.
- Obtain the secondary raw materials of copper interest.
- Develop to measure ceramic membranes based on clay materials designed ad-hoc.
- Obtain consumer goods from each of the sectors involved (toys / household items, metalworking and ceramic).
- Identify the different environmental marketing tools applicable to consumer goods.
- Establish the requirements of an ecolabel for consumer goods developed.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2022: E3.1 Detailed report of by-products obtained

This deliverable summarizes all the information collected within “PT3. Obtaining by-products” in which the treatments have been carried out on the different streams, using the methodologies established in PT2, to obtain secondary products that can be valued in PT4. In addition, ceramic membranes based on clay raw materials and designed ad hoc were prepared to treat streams containing suspended material.
The tasks developed within this work package have been:
- Task 3.1. Obtaining secondary Zn raw materials.
- Task 3.2. Obtaining secondary raw materials from Cu.
- Task 3.3. Obtaining ad hoc designed ceramic membranes based on clay materials.
