SMARTRAIN. BRIDGING Pivotal COMPETENCIES TEV FROM CURRICULA TO CO-CREATION IN FURNITURE DESIGN

DESCRIPTION

SmarTrain joins VET providers and Research and Technology Organizations from the Woodworking and Furniture Manufacturing Industries to challenge and broaden the horizons of European VET systems. The project will detect the core changes required to include new SKCs (Skills, Knowledge and Competencies) in the official curricula of VET, aligned with the current and future demands of the wood & furniture sector. Hitherto it addresses a major TRAINING GAP between VET curricula and companies' real needs for transformation.
Acknowledging that 40% of workers does not have sufficient digital skills (Eurostat 2015), SmarTrain fosters the EVOLUTION OF ENTERPRISES TOWARDS THE INDUSTRY 4.0, exploiting previous initiatives aimed to facilitate this undeniable new industrial revolution for both companies and their future workers. The main objective is the acquisition of SKCs about CIRCULAR ECONOMY, ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING and INTELLIGENT FURNITURE, which require new (soft) skills in this digital era: digital literacy, curiosity and imagination, critical analysis of information, entrepreneurship, collaboration in networks, agility and adaptability, critical thinking and problem solving. SmarTrain is a collaboration of RTOs, an European umbrella organization (AIDIMME, COSMOB, INNOVAWOOD) and 3 VET centers (CIPFP Catarroja, ENAIP Lombardia, WOODWIZE), paired by countries.
SmarTrain composes a network fostering VERTICAL (between sectoral and VET centers), HORIZONTAL (between centers of the same typology) and MULTIDISCIPLINARY links for exchange and collaboration, all of them forming a CIRCULAR CONSORTIUM in touch with the labor market and the educational sector.

OBJECTIVES

1 • REDUCING THE GAP between SKILLS that companies are looking for and the JOB POSTS they are offering. VIRTUAL TRAINING with the help of an adequate thematic training material, along with a PRACTICAL COMPONENT (learning-by-doing) are more than encouraged, due to the fact both TEACHERS AND STUDENTS will acquire concepts and learn new working processes that are innovative, digital and respectful to the environment.
2 • Facilitating the acquisition of new competences and skills that takes into account both the DIGITISATION (Additive Manufacturing, Intelligent Furniture) and CIRCULAR ECONOMY, such as digital skills, creative skills, business skills, intercultural competence, fairness / inclusion of disadvantaged persons.
3 • Contributing with the VET providers by offering new PRACTICAL TEACHING-LEARNING methodologies that are present in all Europe.
4 • Establishing a NETWORK OF COLLABORATION AND WORK between RTOs and VET providers from the point of view of R&D and technology transfer, through the sharing of information generated by the companies, that are constantly participating and collaborating with the RTOs in all these prospective themes in the wood and furniture sector.
5 • Testing the benefits of international exchange in VET for wood and furniture sector, which will establish regular collaboration in the future and will lay the basis of subsequent sustainability of the project.
6 • Transferring and acquisition of skills related to design and prototyping of high-quality, reusable, recoverable
