"BIO0 DEXYMOL" QUANTIFICATION OF DAMAGE BY XYLOPHAGOUS ORGANISMS IN STRUCTURAL WOOD: A PCR-BASED MOLECULAR APPROACH DESCRIPTION This project aims to determine, using molecular biology techniques, the bacterial species present in the digestive tract of wood-boring insects, specifically termites of the genus Reticulitermes, as these are the most problematic in buildings both on the Iberian Peninsula and in the Valencian Community. Furthermore, the project will also identify, using various molecular techniques, the most abundant microbiological species in fecal matter deposited in recently and old infested wood. By quantifying the presence of these species in the termite waste, precise and early detection of the stage of termite infestation will be achieved, allowing for the most effective intervention. OBJECTIVES -The main objective of the project is to design, optimize and validate a methodology based on PCR (polymerase chain reaction) to detect and quantify the levels of biodegradation of wood installed on site. -The aim is to provide a precise and rapid tool for assessing the condition of the wood by identifying specific genes that are overexpressed. -The system will allow for the early detection of deterioration, optimizing decision-making for its conservation and treatment.
