"DOP0 SMARTPCB 2026"
RESEARCH IN ARCHITECTURES, SELF-DIAGNOSTICS AND EMBEDDED CYBERSECURITY FOR SMART SMD ELECTRONIC BOARDS IN IOT AND EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
DESCRIPTION
The project focuses on the development of smart electronic boards using SMD technology for advanced applications in IoT devices and embedded systems (a combination of hardware and software to perform specific functions).
OBJECTIVES
- To investigate a modular HW/SW architecture for smart SMD boards oriented towards IoT/embedded applications, integrating sensors, connectivity and processing, and extending advanced functions (self-diagnostics, energy management, embedded security).
- Develop and evaluate advanced self-diagnostic methods for plaque "health" and degradation in the field, with metrics and verification protocols.
- Investigate ultra-low power consumption and adaptive energy management techniques, including power management strategies at the firmware and hardware level (and, where appropriate, scenarios with energy harvesting), to maximize autonomy and robustness.
- Generate data-based SMD design-manufacturing-testing knowledge and models, aimed at reducing uncertainty, improving repeatability and optimizing design decisions, without framing it as "industrialization" but as a research methodology and experimental validation.
