"I400 EMU-TWIN"

GENERATION AND VALIDATION OF DIGITAL TWINS OF AIDIMME DEMONSTRATION LINES FOR CAPACITY ASSESSMENT AND PRACTICAL USE

DESCRIPTION

The project involves developing digital twins of production lines to represent the actual process flow, measure performance, and evaluate improvements without interrupting operations. We begin by digitizing the line elements (layout, stations, conveyors, buffers) and collecting process data (times, operating rules, typical incidents) to build a valid and executable model.

The twin is developed in levels of fidelity, from an initial version to quickly understand the flow and bottlenecks, to a validatable operational twin to compare KPIs with the actual line. When it adds value, selective enhancements are incorporated (e.g., greater detail in critical areas or scenario automation) to explore Emulate3D's potential in the use case.

The project aims to achieve the following:

- Identify bottlenecks and capacity limitations.
- Evaluate operating alternatives: buffers, priority rules, times, availability, product mix.
- Quantitative KPIs: throughput, cycle time, WIP/queues, resource utilization and scenario analysis.
- Methodology and reusable assets to replicate the twin in other lines.

OBJECTIVES

- Investigate a fidelity-level modeling approach (low/medium/high), quantifying the trade-off between accuracy vs. modeling effort vs. computational cost for AIDIMME-type lines.
- Develop and evaluate a twin validation and calibration method, incorporating: definition of KPIs, acceptance criteria, and uncertainty estimation (time ranges, operational variability).
- Characterize the range of validity of the twin for decision-making: scenarios, sensitivity analysis and comparison of operational alternatives (buffers, prioritization rules, times, availability), identifying bottlenecks and levers for improvement.
- Define the minimum data requirements and practical limitations in these cases.
