"I400 SMART"

RESEARCH AND VALIDATION OF AN INTELLIGENT IOT SYSTEM FOR MONITORING HYGROTHERMAL CONDITIONS, DEFORMATIONS AND BIOTIC RISK IN WOOD STRUCTURES AND PRODUCTS.




DESCRIPTION

SMARMIOT is investigating a comprehensive wood monitoring solution that combines hygrothermal variables, extensometry, and early detection of wood-boring insects/fungi to anticipate degradation and loss of structural integrity. The project builds on AIDIMME's prior experience with sensors and IoT platforms for monitoring wood in heritage sites (including CADIX-type systems for humidity control and proactive detection of fungi and wood-boring insects) and is moving towards a multidisciplinary approach with automated alerts and a system validation phase under representative conditions.

OBJECTIVES

- Research and develop multiparameter monitoring hardware for wood, integrating temperature, relative humidity and humidity/hygrothermal risk sensors, plus extensometry oriented to cellulosic products (dimensional changes / mechanical response).

- Investigate early detection techniques for wood-destroying agents and biodeterioration (termites, woodworms, and fungi), including sensitivity/robustness criteria, and their integration with environmental variables to characterize risk. (AIDIMME is already working on preventive detection and monitoring of the risk from fungi and insects).

- Develop a connected platform (IoT) for real-time recording, visualization and analysis, incorporating wood state evolution models and automatic generation of alerts by risk thresholds/indices.

- To experimentally validate the complete system under controlled conditions and in a representative environment (heritage/wooden structures), defining test protocols and acceptance criteria.
