"PCK0 SAFE-BAT LAB"

METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK FOR THE PRELIMINARY EVALUATION OF THE SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE OF NEW GENERATION ELECTRIC BATTERIES

DESCRIPTION

The SAFE-BAT LAB project is a continuation of the last four projects: ELECTROPACK, ECODAMPING, BATTEST and GREENPACK.

Among the new developments, SAFE-BAT Lab is positioned as a line of research focused on developing applied knowledge and methodological tools for the early safety assessment of next-generation batteries, without the need for high-risk infrastructure or destructive testing. Its innovative approach lies in the integration of regulatory analysis, risk assessment, non-destructive characterization, and simplified simulation, providing companies and developers with a structured framework for decision-making in the early stages of design, integration, and logistics.

This project will lay the technical and organizational foundations for a future expansion towards advanced experimental capabilities, in a progressive and safe manner.

OBJECTIVES

Development of a methodological framework for preliminary safety assessment of new generation electric batteries, based on risk analysis, regulatory review and definition of pre-test protocols compatible with standard laboratory infrastructures.

Identification and systematization of the main failure modes and risks associated with the use, transport and storage of batteries, through documentary analysis, technical benchmarking and case studies.

Definition and application of non-destructive characterization techniques and low-risk tests (visual, basic electrical, passive thermal, low-severity vibrations), aimed at the early detection of potentially unsafe conditions.
