DESCRIPTION Current wood decontamination systems are primarily based on chemical extraction using chelating agents, alkaline solutions, or organic acids. Their implementation on an industrial scale is practically nonexistent due to their high cost, complexity, and the generation of waste, as a byproduct, that is difficult to treat. Therefore, chemically preserved wood waste is usually managed as hazardous waste or for energy recovery.
