FGVA EC0 RECELEC-CHEMICAL RECYCLING OF WASTE GENERATED IN THE VALORIZATION OF BIOMASS THROUGH THE USE OF ADVANCED ELECTROCHEMISTRY




DESCRIPTION

Progress toward a more sustainable economy depends both on the search for new energy sources and on new supplies of natural and renewable raw materials as an alternative to fossil fuels. In this regard, RECELEC focuses on the transformation of lignocellulosic biomass from pruning residues as a natural carbon source for its valorization into valuable products, specifically the production of glucose as the basic unit of cellulose, the main polysaccharide in biomass residues.

OBJECTIVES

The use of biomass as a source of high-value-added basic chemicals through its oxidation to glucose and its derivatives as an alternative to fossil fuels.

To this end, electrocatalysts are developed and manufactured based on the surface modification of various materials manufactured using 3D technology and surface modified using electrochemical and thermal techniques for use in the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass.

Manufacturing of hierarchical electrodes that can be used in the oxidation of biomass, doped with nickel as an electrocatalyst.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Año 2024:
Different nickel-doped electrodes have been obtained on different supports manufactured using 3D additive manufacturing technology based on titanium and on nickel-coated polyamide.

Surface modification techniques have been electrochemical for the generation of oxides on the surface in the form of a template, and thermal techniques using a controlled atmosphere for their fixation and the generation of structures. Finally, nickel doping has been achieved through the electrochemical incorporation of nanoparticles using cyclic voltammetry or electrochemical chronoamperometry.

They have been characterized for their possible use as electrocatalysts in oxidation reactions using electrochemical techniques in alkaline media, and their distribution and morphology have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy.
