"FEDER METAPHOR" METAFOR - REMOTE SENSING FOR FOREST MODELLING AND IMPLEMENTATION IN THE RURAL VALENCIAN COMMUNITY DESCRIPTION This project aims to develop a model, using GIS tools, that provides relevant forest variables for large areas of Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) forests in the Autonomous Community of Valencia (CV) to develop forest management plans that allow for more precise logging. The results of the mathematical algorithms obtained in the previous projects WOODFOREST SATELLITE and WOODBYSAT will be used as a basis, as well as the advances made in MODELMAD, which predicts forest variables such as stand, volume, and wood quality based on available remote sensing data. Furthermore, the project aims to validate the algorithms on larger forest areas, improve them, and scale the results to larger areas of the Autonomous Community of Valencia (CV). OBJECTIVES The general objective of this project is to carry out a model that provides forest variables of interest (quantity and quality of wood, possibility of exploitation, etc., using GIS tools) of large areas of Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) forests in the Valencian Community using the results of mathematical algorithms and data obtained in previous projects WOODFOREST SATELLITE, WOODBYSAT, MODELMAD 2024, which predict forest stand variables such as volume or quality of wood from available remote sensing data. To achieve the general objective, the following specific objectives are proposed: .- Evaluate the different sources of information and the most up-to-date satellite and forestry databases. .- Compile the results of previous projects (WOODFOREST SATELLITE, WOODBYSAT and MODELMAD). - Select the data useful for the project based on each person's contribution. - Create a new, comprehensive, and updated forest and satellite database for different regions of the Valencian Community. .- Analyze the data and parameters collected in the database that are used for modeling. .-Develop an innovative model that allows for the characterization of forests in rural areas of the Valencian Community in terms of wood quality and exploitation possibilities. .- Validate the model by performing checks in the field, laboratory and office. .- Develop innovative forest management plans aimed at the logging of Pinus halepensis forests in rural areas of the Valencian Community with the aim of obtaining valuable, high-quality wood products. .- Promote the use of Pinus halepensis wood by companies in the sector due to the natural and economic benefits of consuming this product (km0, biodiversity, fewer fires, local employment, etc.). .- Develop a web viewer with GIS mapping that allows for easy visualization of both modeling and management plans, so that any agent involved in forest management can use it as a tool. - Effectively disseminate the project and its results, and transfer and promote the results to companies in the Valencian Community of greatest interest.
