CECS - Research and experimentation of new, efficient heat transfer processes integrated into sustainable construction solutions for data centers




DESCRIPTION

The project's main objective is to research and experiment with new, efficient heat transfer processes (detailing the degree of efficiency and potential for improvement in terms of cooling and reuse of dissipated heat depending on the data processing activity carried out in these types of facilities) integrated into sustainable construction solutions (through the combination and improvement of sustainable and thermally efficient materials). This will generate the necessary knowledge to design solutions, indicators, and analysis and improvement models to address some of the challenges inherent to Data Processing Centers (DPCs) in the energy/environmental and operational fields.

OBJECTIVES

The objective of the project is the complete characterization of a sustainable and thermally efficient experimental rack, relating its operation to the energy consumption of the process itself, the heat generation associated with its operation and the cooling consumption that dissipates said generated heat.

At the same time, the study aims to analyze improvements in heat transfer through enhanced efficiency and climate control, compare the energy and environmental impact of this climate control system with immersion cooling, and analyze the impact on power grid quality. Furthermore, energy savings will be improved through an envelope that allows for rapid cooling of the building, the ability to recover waste heat, and that is also sustainable, either through the use of biomaterials or recycled materials.

The project will allow for the analysis of improvements in heat transfer efficiency, taking into account improvements in cooling efficiency, the use of sustainable and thermally efficient insulation and building envelope, and the reuse of waste heat.
