"FGVA PCK0 - ELECTROPACK"
FGVA PCK0 - Integration of cushioning elements into sustainable products and packaging systems
DESCRIPTION
This project is based on the conclusions obtained from projects conducted over the last three years in AIDIMME's research line on packaging systems.
Based on the results obtained in ECODAMPING and GREENPACK, research and development will be carried out on packaging systems made from the characterized cellulosic materials, seeking to integrate these products into electronic product packaging systems.
Furthermore, the research initiated with BATTEST in previous years on the safety requirements of packaging systems for electric batteries is continuing, deepening and generating a set of technical documentation, which will be available to companies in the electrical and electronic products sector in the Valencian Community, on the requirements for the characterization and approval of batteries and their packaging, both in terms of technical equipment and infrastructure.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the project are:
• Integrate sustainable materials into the design of packaging systems for electronic products, taking advantage of the cushioning capacity of these materials.
• Validate the safety of sustainable packaging systems for transporting electronic products, minimizing risks during transport and handling of products and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Analyze packaging design to achieve the lowest possible material usage without compromising product safety.
• Investigate the equipment needed to perform vibration and shock tests on electric batteries, as well as the necessary safety requirements.
• Establish infrastructure requirements where electric batteries can be evaluated.
Project Number: 22500009 Grant Agreement: IMAMCA/2025/2 Duration: From 01/01/2025 to 31/12/2025
Coordinated in AIDIMME by: SÁNCHEZ LÓPEZ, FRANCISCO JOSÉ
R&D Line: PACKAGING SYSTEMS

RESULTS OBTAINED
Year 2025: The work carried out has followed a coherent research sequence, starting with the functional characterization of cellulosic shock-absorbing materials using G vs. load curves and culminating with the experimental validation of the complete packaging system using drop tests representative of logistics distribution.
The project consolidates the use of Kenaf as a viable technical alternative to conventional polymeric materials, providing applied knowledge, clear design tools and a solid basis for its transfer to the electronic packaging industry and for the development of future R&D activities in this field.
ELECTROPACK thus reinforces the technical viability of sustainable packaging solutions based on cellulosic materials, providing clear design criteria and a solid experimental foundation for their transfer to the industrial sector. Additionally, the project has identified complementary lines of analysis aimed at defining technical and safety requirements for future testing capabilities in emerging fields.
