"OSIPAT2"PROJECT OFFICE OF INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS FOR THE INDUSTRIAL AREAS OF PATERNA - OSIPAT II DESCRIPTIONThe purpose of the project is to promote the application of the circular economy in the entities and companies of "Paterna Ciudad de Empresas" through the establishment of synergies of industrial symbiosis. OBJECTIVESEncourage the participation of local companies in the symbiosis network; establish strategic alliances with educational institutions and research centres to boost innovation; create regular spaces for exchange (LOKINN-SIMBYLAY) to identify collaboration opportunities; prioritise mutually beneficial businesses; organise business events to promote synergies; proactively generate opportunities within the network; define clear roles in the office; develop an equitable governance model; implement a sustainable management system; design communication strategies and awareness campaigns; produce attractive promotional materials; establish key indicators (KPIs) to measure impact; optimise internal processes; ensure regulatory compliance; ethically manage shared information, and support companies in their adaptation to emerging legal requirements. RESULTS OBTAINEDYear 2024: The Paterna Industrial Symbiosis Office (OSIPAT) project has been key to promoting the circular economy in Paterna, achieving significant advances in sustainability and resource optimization in the local business fabric. This office has created a space for collaboration between companies, facilitating the identification of synergies and the implementation of joint projects that improve resource efficiency and reduce waste. In 2024, the participation of local companies increased, identifying more potential synergies thanks to personalized visits and the promotion of the Simbylay platform. Although the number of synergies materialized remains low, the importance of promoting the role of the OSIPAT facilitator to improve these results is highlighted. This process has underlined the relevance of business cooperation and the need to continue generating new collaboration opportunities. Another relevant milestone has been the update of the interoperability platform, integrating Simbylay with LOKINN, which optimizes information management and automates the identification of synergies. This improvement allows companies to more easily access underused resources in their environment. The project has also had a positive environmental and social impact. Initiatives such as the collaboration with the Francisco Esteve Intermunicipal Trust incorporate a social approach to the project, promoting the labour inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in activities related to industrial symbiosis. This reinforces OSIPAT's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and an inclusive circular economy. Knowledge transfer and capacity building have also been priorities, with the creation of resource and technology databases, and the implementation of indicator systems. These tools allow for more precise control of resources, optimising their use and facilitating new collaborations. In addition, the measurement and evaluation of the performance of synergies has promoted a culture of continuous improvement, beneficial for companies and the local community. However, the project faces challenges such as the incompatibility of certain resources, logistical obstacles and regulatory restrictions in waste management. These barriers provide valuable information for adjusting future strategies, improving effectiveness in identifying synergies and formalizing business agreements.
