"ECOBUILD" ECOBUILD- DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A CIRCULAR ECONOMY DIAGNOSTIC TOOL FOR COMPANIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR DESCRIPTION The construction sector is recognized as a major contributor to global environmental impacts. The sector consumes more than 40% of all raw materials extracted from the lithosphere and is responsible for 50% of greenhouse gas emissions, along the entire chain from construction to demolition, through use and maintenance. For this reason, within the circular economy strategy, both at national and European level, the construction sector has been considered as a key sector with regard to circular economy. This project is aligned with a line of research that is being followed in AIDIMME, focused on making available to companies simple tools that allow them to carry out actions towards a circular economic model. At ECOBUILD, the creation of a circularity level diagnostic tool specifically focused on the construction sector is proposed. This sector presents significant differences with respect to other more industrial sectors, such as metalworking, furniture, textiles, ... The approach of the tool will be eminently practical from the point of view of companies, since the objective is to guide them in the process towards a circular economy. The first step in any improvement process is to know the initial starting situation, so the ECOBUILD tool will help companies to know their strengths and weaknesses with regard to the basic concepts of circular economy. It should be noted that the application will be especially focused on companies in the Valencian Community of the construction sector. OBJECTIVES The main objective of this project is to create a tool that allows companies in the construction sector to assess their status with regard to the key concepts of the circular economy. The tool will allow a qualitative assessment of the level of circularity in companies in the construction sector. The support tool will allow a diagnosis of the level of circularity of the company based on a system of simple indicators adapted to the characteristics of the construction sector. As specific objectives, the following are proposed: • Know the starting situation and perception of the Valencian Community construction sector on the circular economy. • Investigate the main strategies carried out by companies in the construction sector with regard to the circular economy. • Provide construction companies with a support technology tool so that they can incorporate circular economy concepts in their daily activities. • Promote the incorporation of environmental aspects in companies in the construction sector. Within the framework of the project, the ECOBUILD brand has been created, which is certifiable. In this way, solutions and tools can be offered to companies that want to differentiate themselves in this context; making its degree of circularity visible and highlighting its commitment to the Circular Economy.
