RECUFAD - FUNCTIONALIZATION OF COATINGS OF POLYMERIC STRUCTURES, OBTAINED THROUGH ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES.




DESCRIPTION

Provide specific functionalities to polymers used in additive manufacturing using SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) technology. To do this, two functionalization alternatives are proposed:
- Additivation of the polymer powder used as raw material
- Surface activation of the manufactured part and subsequent functionalization
The target functionalities will be those that fit with the chemistry of the polymeric material used as food, as well as the operational characteristics of the additive manufacturing system, especially the cure temperature. A priori, functionalities such as bactericidal, anti-scratch, photocatalytic, oxidant, hydrophobic, anti-fouling will be sought ...
The additives may be of different natural: metallic, ceramic, carbon-based or organic.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2021: During the execution of the project, a review of the most notable works on polyamide functionalization has been carried out. Of these works, those in which PA12 was functionalized with SiO2 and PDA have been selected, since they are interesting materials and can confer different properties, among which the following stand out:

- Increased mechanical resistance
- Biocompatibility
- Adhesion or adsorption of different organic compounds, nanomaterials, etc.
- Fire resistance
- Improvement of electrical conductivity
- Resistance to UV radiation

PA12, used as a base material, has been characterized for its subsequent functionalization. PA12 has been functionalized in the wet phase, using SiO2 sol-gel technology or dopamine chloride polymerization (PDA). A good distribution of the materials on the PA12 particles has been shown. According to the results obtained, it can be said that the modifications made to PA12 do not modify its DSC, so the process window in additive manufacturing could be the same for all conditions, but its fluidity index has been modified, which should be considered for processing in future studies.
Functionalization with SiO2MP or PDA represents an increase in the added value of PA12, since they can confer a great diversity of properties.
