"VIRTUAL SENSE 20-21"

VIRTUAL SENSE - DESIGN OF VIRTUAL SENSORS FOR THE CONTROL OF MACHINE PARAMETERS IN REAL TIME.

DESCRIPTION

There is a large number of physical sensors (known as hardware sensors) capable of measuring a wide variety of physical quantities of relevance for the monitoring of an industrial process: temperature, humidity, current consumption, acceleration, magnetic field, sound, speeds, presence , luminosity, distance, etc.

However, there are different industrial processes where the installation of a physical sensor is not feasible, for different reasons: access problems to the physical area of the process, aggressive environments, inexistence or excessive cost of physical sensors, etc.
In this sense, the project pursues the design and development of virtual sensors (also known as software sensors) to solve this lack, allowing data to be captured in those processes where it is not feasible to install hardware sensors (or they do not exist), feeding the rest of digital enablers , for a correct adoption of Industry 4.0 in any type of process.
In the case of the furniture sector, the environments and processes where the development of virtual sensors has application can be focused on the finishing processes of furniture pieces. In the metalworking sector, suitable environments have been identified for the development of virtual sensors in machining processes (measurement of the degradation of machine oil), part shaping (heat treatments) and finishes (chemical treatments).

OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the project is the enhancement of the digital enablers of Industry 4.0 in the furniture and metalworking sector through the development of specific virtual sensors for sectorial processes, parameterizable according to the specific characteristics of the process and adaptive to process variations. These virtual sensors are aimed at capturing data and information on key parameters of industrial processes, for which there are currently no hardware sensors.

Project Number: 22000059
Grant Agreement: IMDEEA / 2020/27
Duration: From 01/04/2020 to 31/07/2021

Coordinated in AIDIMME by: SÁNCHEZ ASINS, JOSÉ LUIS
R&D Line: INDUSTRY 4.0

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2021: Five processes in total have been identified (three for Furniture and two for Metal) in which virtual sensors would need to be implemented. The physical variables measurable through hardware sensors have been identified.
Two virtual sensors have been developed to measure complex magnitudes in manufacturing processes in both sectors. A sensor that measures grams of product applied continuously on pieces of board, and a sensor that measures the water content in a lubrication mixture (cooling fluid) used in machine tools.
Two pilots have been installed in two collaborating companies (FACTOR and ROYO) to validate the results obtained in the laboratory with the virtual sensors developed.
