Benefits |
Thanks to this course, you will have access to rehabilitation and treatment solutions for the most common pathologies and injuries. You will also learn from practical case studies involving expert assessment and restoration. All of this knowledge will enable you to carry out the Technical Building Inspection (ITE) of buildings with wooden structures or elements, as well as rehabilitation and consolidation projects. |
Introduction |
Old wooden structures often exhibit varying degrees of structural damage and deterioration, requiring highly specific rehabilitation solutions tailored to both the material's characteristics and the construction methods employed, which differ significantly from those used today. Applying inappropriate solutions can create new structural problems or exacerbate existing ones.
Furthermore, due to its biological origin, untreated wood of some species is susceptible to pathologies, especially outdoors. From a regulatory standpoint, the CTE (Technical Building Code) establishes certain mandatory treatments for wood species that are not naturally durable (pine, for example), both for new construction and renovation projects.
These treatments, which can range from superficial to pressure in an autoclave, depend on the specific use of the wood (pillars, roofs, etc.) and take into account its degree of exposure to environmental conditions.
Unfortunately, sometimes these treatments are not requested from the wood suppliers, or treatments are requested that are not appropriate and sometimes are completely useless.
The course includes several practical cases, corresponding to rehabilitations of different scopes and affecting roofs, floors, individual load-bearing beams, etc.

- Architecture and construction professionals. - People interested in these topics. |
Objectives |
This highly practical course aims to provide professionals with a basic understanding of the main rehabilitation and treatment solutions for the most common pathologies and injuries. This knowledge is directly applicable to the Technical Building Inspection (ITE) of buildings with wooden structures or elements, as well as to rehabilitation and consolidation projects. |
Content |
1. Rehabilitation of wooden structures.
- Partial repair/reinforcement of the affected elements.
- Complete repair/reinforcement of the element.
- Complete replacement of the element.
- Total reinforcement of the room/opening structure.
- Reinforcements not recommended.
2. Wood treatments.
- Technical principles of protective treatment.
- Preventive treatments (active substances, vehicle or solvent, fixing principles, product families, protective action they perform).
- Curative treatments (chemical, biological, construction measures and new generation treatments).

| SEGURA ORENGA, GUILLEM |
|
PhD in Forestry Engineering, Master's in Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering, and Master's in Gardening and Landscape Design, all from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). Twenty years of experience in forestry R&D projects at AIDIMME and the UPV. He has worked on various regional, national, and European projects related to timber construction and forestry research. For the past 15 years, he has been pursuing his PhD in reforestation within the UPV's forestry research group. At AIDIMME, his experience is primarily based on his work as a technician and project coordinator in the forestry sector (use of local timber and biomass) related to timber in construction and renovation, and the development of innovative wood-based products at the regional, national, and European levels. He is currently the Coordinator of Timber Structures and Forest Products in the Department of Wood Biotechnology. He has over 10 publications, mainly in the field of forestry.

| PEÑALVER OLTRA, MANUEL |
|
A graduate in Forestry and Natural Environment Engineering and with an official Master's degree in Forestry Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, he has been a technician in the wood technology and biotechnology department of AIDIMME since 2019. His work involves conducting assessments of timber structures based on in-situ analysis and diagnosis using non-destructive techniques to contribute to their proper conservation and rehabilitation. Also since 2019, he has been involved in the execution and drafting of projects related to timber construction and rehabilitation (MEND-ME, RESTRUCMAD, among others), forestry management and exploitation projects (WOODFOREST SATELLITE, WOODBYSAT, METAFOR), and projects for the development of new wood-derived products (INNOCOND, AVANT CLT, PREALTCLT).
