The Microbiology Laboratory at AIDIMME focuses on the research, development, and evaluation of solutions aimed at improving the hygiene and durability of everyday materials and products. Its work centers on studying the microbiological behavior of materials and surfaces in the presence of bacteria, fungi, wood-decaying fungi, and viruses, as well as evaluating the effectiveness of biocidal and antimicrobial products.
Description and activity of the laboratory
Numerous materials present in our environment — such as sanitary surfaces, coatings, wood, paper, textiles or technical products — can act as reservoirs of microorganisms that affect both health and the useful life of products.
The AIDIMME Microbiology Laboratory researches, develops, and tests solutions to minimize these risks through the formulation and evaluation of biocidal compounds and the microbiological characterization of materials. Tests are performed according to standardized methods and technical reference guidelines, including those established by the ECHA within the framework of the Biocidal Products Regulationas well as through specific protocols adapted to the needs of companies.
The laboratory also performs tests to determine the effectiveness of products wood protectors against biological agents, contributing to the evaluation of durability and behavior of wood and of the products derived from them.
Finally, activities are developed in Microbiology applied to industrial processes, oriented to the circular economy, through the selection of microbial strains and the evaluation of biological strategies for the recyclability, valorization and recovery of waste products, such as plastics, foams and other technical materials.
