BIOMASS INNOVATION AND QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICAL SERVICE

The objective of this technical service, in which AIDIMME has been working for 15 years, is to advise on different aspects of the biomass value chain from different origins (forestry, agricultural and industrial) and on the development and improvement of solid biofuels such as wood chips or pellets.

This service is aimed at companies, organizations and associations that work in the production, distribution and promotion of the use of biomass as a renewable energy source.

The most important aspects concerning the valorization of biomass as an energy source:

• Biomass supply potential.
• Logistics and investment costs for its use.
• Quality of biofuels (wood chips, pellets, firewood, etc.) in terms of their physical and chemical properties (% ash, % moisture, calorific value, etc.)
• Optimization of the pelletizing process to meet established standards.
• Optimization of the energy valorization process, both thermal and electrical, of biofuels.

This service aims to provide the best solution to the aforementioned aspects through study and quality control carried out in AIDIMME laboratories.

• Study of the biomass potential of specific territories.
• Study of pelletizing and process improvement in the solid biofuels laboratory.
• Study of the costs of utilization and production of solid biofuels.
• Study for improving the efficiency of biomass energy production facilities.
• Waste valorization studies.

Tests performed:

• ISO 17.225 - Morphological, physical and chemical tests of solid biofuels according to established standards. (% ash, % moisture, calorific value, density, durability, % chlorine and sulfur, etc.).
• Pilot tests of crushing and pelletizing biomass from different origins.

Through studies, the service allows for the improvement of the biomass value chain (supply, logistics and production) by identifying key points and providing solutions for them.

The tests allow us to know the quality of the biofuels and identify which parameters can be improved.
