SNUG - INNOVATIVE METHODOLOGY BASED ON CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO FOSTER THE TRANSITION TO SUSTAINABLE AND VERY HIGH ENERGY PERFORMANCE BUILDINGS AT A COST OPTIMAL LEVEL

DESCRIPTION

Buildings are responsible for over 40% of the energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the EU. Accordingly, The CE has established ambitious building standard aiming to transform all existing buildings into ZEBs by 2050 to reach a fully decarbonised building stock.
SNUG aims to demonstrate on three real buildings with different characteristics, uses and climatology, the application of an innovative methodology to support planners of new buildings or retrofitting works in selecting the most appropriate set of insulation materials, their combination and placement to maximize the energy efficiency and minimize GHG emissions of the building throughout its life cycle to make its ZEB rating more easily achievable, considering specific building characteristics and its environment, at an optimal cost level. This methodology will be supported by:
A Digital Tool Assistant based on AI and virtual simulation
Innovative sustainable by design thermal insulation materials
An insulation materials database, including LCA information
A Digital Building Logbook

OBJECTIVES

O1.- To optimize advanced and durable sustainable-by-design thermal insulation materials and multifunctional prefabs based on circular economy.
O2.- Prepare for industrialization advanced thermal insulation materials and multifunctional products developed at a pilot scale with at least the same performance, sustainable process and effective cost.
O3.- Development of Digital Assistant Tool (DAT) able to select the best set of Thermal Insulation Solutions and installation placement tailor made to the peculiarities and environment of a building assisted by AI algorithms and digital twins.
O4.- Demonstrate, in three real buildings of different features, use and climatology, methodology proposed for the selection of best solutions adapted to the particularities of buildings and climatology.
O5.- Clustering and cooperation with other relevant projects and HE Partnerships with related topics
