"FGVA DOP0 - SIMUPROD 3"

SIMUPROD 3 COUPLED MULTIPHYSICS SIMULATION

DESCRIPTION

The project will address the study of the flow velocity and pressure field in elements subjected to the action of fluids by means of CFD techniques, using the additional multiphysics approach of fluid-structural coupling FSI, in order to determine and correlate, through physical tests, the structural fatigue stress on the item studied.

OBJECTIVES

Analyze the state of forces, stresses and deformations, which occurs in a deformable solid that works under fatigue immersed in a fluid (liquid or gas) or circulating inside it).

Carry out physical laboratory tests to determine, by means of a data correlation analysis, the goodness of the results obtained in the multiphysical analysis.

Project Number: 22200004
Grant Agreement: IMAMCA/2022/2
Duration: From 01/01/2022 to 31/12/2022

Coordinated in AIDIMME by: MARIN MATEOS APARICIO, LUIS
R&D Line: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND OPTIMIZATION

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2023: The study of different multiphysics cases has enhanced knowledge and simulation and testing capabilities to be able to analyze the behavior of elements in a fluid medium and extract its consequences at a structural level.
Work has been done in two fluid media, air and water, carrying out simulations using CFD software and tests on test benches. Sensors such as strain gauges and load cells have been used to see the similarities and discrepancies between the test carried out and the calculations obtained by multiphysics simulation.
As a result of the research work, it has been possible to examine the influence of the different parameters that operate in the coupled multiphysics models on the correlation of data with laboratory physical tests.
Also obtaining a greater understanding of the causes and consequences of the natural phenomena involved in the coupling phenomena between different physical fields, which allows a more realistic estimate of the behavior of the designs in specific study prototypes.
The project involves the acquisition of experience and knowledge in a field not widely exploited in the conventional industry. The performance of multiphysics simulations complements the work started in the SIMUPROD 2 project by continuing the development of the methodology to evaluate, in this case, the calculation method and the experimental method in the analysis of the loads caused by the fluid medium.
The experiments and calculations carried out within the project have served to enhance AIDIMME's technical capabilities in order to solve fluid-structure coupled problems that affect industrial products. Thus, it offers a solution to analyze in detail the behavior of products with these requirements to obtain safe and optimized designs.
Ultimately, the methodologies and knowledge acquired are made available to companies in sectors related to products subjected to the action of fluids, which can range from structures such as tanks, wind generators or solar collectors to elements that work in the fluid medium itself. such as boats, fans, hydraulic pumps, etc. The use of more powerful tools is promoted, offering a better service to solve impediments that may appear in the design, testing or validation phases.
