SISPATINT 2022 - TEST, CONFIGURATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE PATINT SYSTEM, AND STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF BIOMATERIALS AND WOOD STRUCTURES

DESCRIPTION

The SISPATINT 2022 project, framed in the AIDIMME Biomaterials R&D line, consists of several applied research activities to test, configure and improve the PATINT system, as well as activities for the study and analysis of biomaterials and wooden structures . Due to recent advances in low-power WiFi components, a new architecture for PATINT is being developed in the project.

The innovative PATINT system is an advanced tool for real-time, preventive and automated monitoring of wood in works of art, heritage buildings and new construction. This highly flexible and scalable system will be compatible with Smart City platforms. In the new architecture that is being developed, the sensors will directly access the cloud (cloud computing).

OBJECTIVES

1) Implementation, configuration and testing of the new architecture of the PATINT system, based on Wi-Fi components with low energy consumption and with direct connection of the system to the cloud (cloud computing) and to Smart Cities platforms.
2) Development, configuration and testing of a complete network of sensors for monitoring wood in works of art and heritage and new buildings.
3) Study and analysis of biomaterials (lignocellulosics, composites, etc.). Analysis, characterization and repair of wooden structures.

Project Number: 22200010
Grant Agreement: IMAMCA/2022/2
Duration: From 01/01/2022 to 31/12/2022

Coordinated in AIDIMME by: ABIÁN PÉREZ, MIGUEL ANGEL
R&D Line: BIOMATERIALS

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2023: Substantial progress has been made in the implementation, configuration and testing of the new architecture of the PATINT system, in which the sensor nodes are WiFi sensor nodes and are made up of two modules: DIPP_WIFI (communications and power module) and DIPP_SENS ( sensor module, which is inserted into the wood).

The PCB for the DIPP_WIFI module was developed. Due to unexpected problems encountered when developing the input stage of the DIPP_WIFI module, explained below, the printed board will require modifications to integrate with the new input stage once it has been developed from the design. proposed and has been thoroughly tested.

Exhaustive checks and energy consumption tests were carried out in the laboratory of the sensor's DIPP_WIFI module, for which 10 provisional WiFi sensor nodes were developed. It was necessary to implement them, because to obtain reliable data on the energy consumption of DIPP_WIFI it is necessary to test it with all the elements that require power from it at one time or another.

Based on the energy consumption profiles of the DIPP_WIFI module determined above, it was possible to plan the input stage of the module with the objective of allowing, in an optimized way, the power of the module both by batteries and through a micro-USB connector. .
Despite the numerous tests carried out, with different circuits and electronic components, it was concluded that it is not possible to use a low bias current converter (or boost converter) with alkaline batteries for the uses required by DIPP_WIFI. The current demand is too demanding and the converters only work correctly when the batteries have a charge greater than 59%. Therefore, the type of batteries had to be changed and a new input stage designed to power the DIPP_WIF module with those batteries.
