"FILTAIR" FILTAIR - SANITIZING SURFACE FOR AIR TREATMENT IN CLOSED SPACES DESCRIPTION The FILTAIR project will generate metallic and plastic surfaces with sanitizing properties that can be applied directly in new indoor air purification systems. The new system has a two-stage disinfection, the first consists of a nanostructured photocatalyst that can eliminate viruses and bacteria using a highly effective and efficient UV light source close to visible; and the second, a polymeric refining filter with antibacterial properties for capturing and eliminating pathogens, with high durability that increases the sanitizing power of the proposed solution. OBJECTIVES The general objective of the project is the development of a system based on nanotechnology, which can be part of air purifying filters, ventilation systems or applied on structural surfaces with antimicrobial and anti-viral properties to control and alleviate the spread of viruses. and pathogens in closed spaces of public concurrence. The main objective of the project is to generate sanitizing surfaces with bactericidal and viricidal power on different materials, both polymeric and metallic, using different functionalization or surface modification techniques. In this project, both metallic and polymeric additive manufacturing and 3D printing parts have been used. In the case of metal parts, the Ti6Al4V alloy has been used to create nanostructured TiO2 photocatalytic surfaces. In the case of polypropylene and polyurethane polymer surfaces, they have been coated with long-lasting bactericidal agents using sol-gel coatings or direct anchoring, activating their surface. The antibacterial and viricidal evaluation of the surfaces studied have shown very high elimination percentages, close to 100%, on all surfaces.
