GVA AM0 - IMPULSO - NEW ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO INJECTION OR MACHINING

DESCRIPTION

The new additive manufacturing technologies incorporated in AIDIMME offer real possibilities of being able to be used by companies for the manufacture of final products as an alternative to injection or machining processes, in this direction there are several barriers that must be overcome to make this objective possible. . The IMPULSO project aims to break down these barriers:

-Determine the design rules and machine limitations to subsequently apply it to the design of parts for additive manufacturing. Including, the intrinsic design rules of the manufacturing process as well as product design rules such as clipping, connection of pieces, connection of tubes, etc ...

-Automation of the design of the manufacturing trays in order to eliminate the human factor and subjective interpretation in the orientation, positioning and design of supports to improve quality, costs and repeatability.

-Characterize the behavior of the materials processed in these technologies under different phenomena (loads, degradation, wear, temperatures, humidity, impacts, fluid pressure) with the aim of giving certain guarantees to customers.

-Carry out a study of the certifications given by manufacturers (both for machines and materials) and learn about the regulations that affect different industrial sectors (automotive, rail, aeronautics, medical ...) in terms of materials and parts, to assess the possibility to include additively manufactured parts in your chain.

-Integrate in the chain a procedure for presenting products through infographics that facilitates the presentation of the product before it is manufactured to improve the image of the customer.

OBJECTIVES

- Evaluate the type of pieces demanded by different sectors to obtain design rules according to them.
- Automate the process of preparation of the manufacturing trays so that it is more efficient in terms of both time reduction and support materials.
- Design a battery of tests against phenomena such as loads, wear, temperature, humidity, cold, impacts, pressure, degradation)
- Gather the specific regulations relating to different sectors to evaluate the possibility of using these technologies as an alternative production process.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2020: The following results have been obtained:
- Identification of design rules for Multi Jet Fusion polymer technology. These design rules affect both the parts themselves (angles, hole diameters) and the design of the manufacturing trays (location and orientation of the parts in the manufacturing volume) as well as the design of the joints between pieces that fit and pieces that join together to form long pieces.
- Automation of tray design to optimize the number of pieces that fit in a tray ensuring that all layers require similar energy.
- Characterization of the behavior of materials processed with the MJF under certain conditions such as high fluid pressure and ultraviolet light.
- Identification of the regulations and certifications required by certain sectors in order to determine whether the parts manufactured with these technologies meet the requirements established therein.
- Identification of the specific design rules for the metal technologies acquired by AIDIMME and that form the multilaser cell. For each of the metallic materials that are processed, there are different design rules because the behavior of each material determines geometric limitations to be taken into account in the design of a product to reduce the number of supports and guarantee quality. of the pieces.
- Integration of a product presentation procedure through infographics highlighting the advantages provided by adapting the design of a product to be manufactured with additive manufacturing technologies.
