DESCRIPTION
A study has been carried out on the following fields of the R&D line of modified surfaces.
1.- SOL-GEL coatings to improve the anticorrosive characteristics of a coating and to increase the hydrophobic and antibacterial characteristics in metallic faucet coatings.
2.- Study of the methodology for the classification of antimicrobial wood surfaces.
3.- Barrier effect of coatings
4.- Study of the anti-corrosion properties in new non-standard products and the influence of different parameters on said corrosion.
OBJECTIVES
Provide the films with paints, depending on the use of the piece, for extra protection, so that it acts as a "waterproofing" of the protective layer against the especially harmful agent, focusing on the field of contact with food and the heritage.
Promote the participation of the center and companies in European and international projects.
Identification and analysis of the R&D lines of the center, through the analysis of information and participation in different committees, platforms and working groups.

RESULTS OBTAINED
Year 2020: Results have been obtained in the following fields studied:
1.- SOL-GEL coatings: it has been proven that there are SOL-GEL products of a high degree of development with the properties sought for their application in metallic coatings and specifically in faucets. Other parameters such as curing, durability, applications and location of the producing companies have been taken into account. In addition, a study has been carried out on the state of the art in options to modify water-based coatings in which anticorrosive zinc sheets are used, proposing the use of graphene additives, the use of micaceous iron oxide, other anticorrosive additives and the use of silicones.
2.- antimicrobial surfaces. The way to adapt the regulations for the classification of antibacterial surfaces in wood has been studied. Processes such as the washing system have been adapted, avoiding the Stomacher system and carrying them out with a pipette and carrying out at least 5 washings. Another adapted parameter is sensitivity, determining that the best method for this type of material is based on dilution (minimum inhibitory concentration).
3.- Barrier effect of coatings. Coatings have been studied in order to know if they have a barrier effect against substances from lower layers. The composition of these lower layers has been determined, the piece of wood has been coated with the coating to be studied and migration tests have been carried out. Migration tests show that no internal substance migrates, the coating acting as a barrier.
4.- Anticorrosive properties. Faced with the new products offered by the market with matrices other than the classic ones (metal, plastic, wood, cardboard, etc.), a study has been carried out to adapt the methodology for calculating the anticorrosive properties of these new materials, as well as to know parameters key (indicators) that can provide guidance regarding these properties.
