"MEND-ME 19-20" MEND-ME - DEVELOPMENT OF A METHODOLOGY FOR THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF STRUCTURAL WOOD AND INNOVATIVE APPLICATION TO REHABILITATION DESCRIPTION The main objective of the project is to develop a non-destructive analysis methodology that allows to know the state and structural quality of the current or old wood. With it, wooden structures can be rehabilitated in less time, in a competitive, sustainable, safe and reliable way, and wood from demolitions can also be used either to carry out these rehabilitations or to be used in new structures. OBJECTIVES The specific objectives of the project as a whole are the following: a) Investigate non-destructive technologies (TND) that assess the structural quality and the presence of defects in old and new wood, so that they are reliable. b) Develop a specific methodology of non-destructive evaluation specific for wood of structural use both old and new, applicable to any type of element, whatever its section and shape, and that is applicable in situ. This methodology will include the method of analysis, the classification criteria and requirements according to use. c) Test the methodology developed in both old and new wood. First, the new wood that is classified by the CTE will be evaluated in order to subsequently apply the methodology to old wood, including its peculiarities. d) Based on the results obtained, the methodology will be improved and optimized. f) Apply the improved methodology to old wood and existing construction systems in rehabilitations. With the methodology developed, all this wood can be classified and used according to the CTE. g) Create a database of mechanical properties of wood species used in the past. h) Innovate in the solutions and products of reinforcement and consolidation used in the rehabilitation of construction systems with old wood, through the use of the elaborated methodology and mathematical-computational models. i) Disseminate effectively the project and its results. j) Transfer and promote the results to companies in the Valencian Community, choosing the most appropriate channels so that the transfer has the greatest possible impact.
