PROACTIV - MONITORING PROCESSES AND ACTIVITIES IN INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

DESCRIPTION

The digitalization of production processes in the manufacturing industry allows for valuable information to reduce process costs, improve productivity, increase the level of quality, reduce maintenance costs, etc. There are different MES or SCADA software tools that allow you to manage the process information in real time, and that can be integrated or not into the company's ERP management system.
One of the problems that must be faced in measuring the state of the processes in real time is the identification and obtaining of the relevant data of each of the machines involved in the manufacturing process, as well as of the people who are driving such machines.

This difficulty stems, on the one hand, from the diversity of existing equipment in a company (different manufacturers) and from the problems of operation and safety that could be caused when manipulating any control or PLC to extract data, since most machines do not They are designed for this purpose and their modification has a prohibitive cost for most companies. On the other hand, there are no systems that automatically control the activity of the personnel, so obtaining information on the tasks performed by people depends exclusively on themselves, which often causes delays in their collection, errors or lack of fidelity of the information.

On the other hand, the new scanning systems must go beyond the collection of data from several different sensors. You have to go a little further and talk about devices that have multiple senses, with certain additional capabilities beyond measurement: collaborative, intelligent, low consumption, etc. (Industrial digitalization for monitoring the production process. 4.0 Industry Naval Day. ALTRAN)

OBJECTIVES

The evolution of the industry is moving towards process control systems in real time, since in this way the ability to react to deviations of any kind is much greater, and avoids unwanted situations being prolonged over time. When referring to process control, not only the adjustment variables of the associated machine (temperature, speed, pressure, etc.) are included, but also the variables associated with the result of the process and that depend on the product produced, and the personnel that Manage each process.
In a real-time production process control environment, most industries with discrete processes face two problems that are currently unresolved and whose solution, when possible, implies a very high cost for the company:
- It is based on the fact that most of the productive equipment has not been designed to share information about its operation with any external system. If the equipment is old, this possibility was not even foreseen by the manufacturer. If it is relatively modern equipment, certain data could be accessed without many technical problems, but the machine manufacturer itself declines all responsibility for any interference with the control system, or proposes some modifications to the equipment whose cost It is unassumable to the customer. Therefore, the problem facing the company is the inability to obtain process data without interfering with it.
- The other problem lies in the automatic capture of data related to the activity of the manufacturing plant staff. In this case, in an industrial plant there are no adequate systems so that the actions carried out by the staff are registered at the same time occur. The collection of this type of information depends on voluntary actions by people to "declare" changes in the status of the process (start / end, quality problems, reasons for incidence, etc.) or the control of the productive activity itself ( location in a process, transport activities, etc). Under these conditions, real-time control is virtually impossible.
Based on this problem, the purpose of the project is to provide adequate means to companies in the Wood-Furniture and Metalworking sectors so that they are able to obtain the relevant data of their machines, processes and personnel relatively easily. Having this information, it can be used to feed MES type production control systems, to perform advanced analyzes and model processes, or simply to visualize and inform staff of the status and operating status of each process.
Therefore, the general objective of the project is to develop a real-time data capture system that does not interfere in the operation of the process, in the control of the machine or in the activity of the personnel, and therefore independent of the type or model of machine and plant personnel. This system must be suitable for 90% of the sector processes (Wood-Furniture and Metalworking), and may monitor the main variables thereof with the necessary acquisition frequency in each case. The system includes both cyberphysical data collection elements, as well as the appropriate means for storing them and their subsequent exploitation.
