"SPS-CIRC 18-19" SPS-CIRC - RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCT-SERVICE SYSTEMS IN A NEW ENVIRONMENT OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN THE SECTOR WOOD, FURNITURE, PACKAGING AND RELATED. DESCRIPTION The challenge faced by companies to ensure that their products are integrated into a circular economy model implies a joint effort at the social, administration and industrial symbiosis levels, which must be supported by management, legal and market infrastructure and facilities. The problems detected are not new, but society and the environment have changed, so it is not possible to apply old recipes. They must be resolved from a current technological and organizational perspective, considering the impact of the measures on society itself and therefore on the challenges that the future poses. The SPS-CIRC project: Research and development of product-service systems in a new environment of circular economy in the wood, furniture, packaging and related sectors ”, developed by AIDIMME and financed by IVACE and FEDER Funds, addresses these issues from different perspectives raised above, to identify possible solutions (good practices and technological and management advances) in other sectors, which can be adapted to the wood-furniture sector to improve its sustainability. OBJECTIVES The specific objectives for the development of products of the wood-furniture sector in a circular economy environment are: • to investigate the main changes and conversion processes necessary to adapt the current linear model of production and consumption to the new ideal of circular economy, as well as the main obstacles to its application in our sector (market, technology, infrastructure, social ...) • investigate applied or emerging solutions (initiatives of furniture companies or other sectors) mainly in the European field that serve as a starting point for , propose the solutions (conceptual and technological) necessary for the transition, taking into account the current situation and idiosyncrasy of the wood-furniture sector. Certain proposals will be selected to develop or adapt some useful solutions to help companies in the sector in the transition to the circular economy model. A self-diagnosis tool has been developed and validated to evaluate the level of circularity for companies or their business models. The guide for the development of sustainability reports (aimed at SMEs) has been validated and improved. A cushion concept based on the principles of the circular economy has been validated as a use case for the application of an eco-design methodology focused on responding to the real needs of the user and involving them in the design of the product (design thinking). The new concept of a customizable modular mattress has been a success.
