"FURNI (Tº) URE"

FURNI [Tº] URE. FORMULATION OF NEW THERMALLY ADVANCED MATERIALS FOR USE IN URBAN FURNITURE, THROUGH THE ADDITION OF MICRO / NANOCAPSULES AND SYSTEMS WITH CHANGE OF PHASE.

DESCRIPTION

PCM technology obeys the acronym of the Anglo-Saxon name Phase Change Materials. As the name implies are materials that change phase when subjected to an external action releasing or capturing latent heat of phase change.
The thermally advanced materials that are obtained with PCM technology, allow said material to not appreciably change the temperature against sudden sharp changes caused by the weather. In other cases it would be possible for the materials to be heated or cooled in contact with the user, prior preparation of the materials used. This preparation could consist of the energy contribution with the most efficient and comfortable system determined in each case. The energy of the material would be accumulated for later use and generation of the corresponding thermal well-being.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the project is to confer advanced thermal properties to the traditional materials used in the furniture sector so that semi-finished or furniture products for outdoor use improve their comfort of use. We think of all the spaces in which the heat generated by the sun causes discomfort or non-use of outdoor furniture due to the excess heat accumulated on the surface of the furniture (case of playgrounds, boats, urban furniture, terraces ...) This thermal property is achieved through innovative techniques such as phase change systems (PCM) that allow the surface of a material to be maintained at the same temperature, which can be between 25 ° C and 28 ° C, adequate touch comfort temperatures.

Regarding the integration into furniture, it will be analyzed that impregnation techniques allow the introduction of PCMs in different materials such as wood, plastics, compounds and how to insert PCM into a flexible matrix that can be used in upholstery. Additives that indicate the phase change of the PCM by color will be introduced into the systems. The materials obtained so far are characterized in terms of their thermal and mechanical characteristics against the change in temperature. The compatibility of the PCM with the methods and formulations with which it is to be added will also be studied, for example encapsulating those PCMs that are required.

Once the final application designs have been made, the determination of the thermal properties and non-stationary behavior of the different systems will be determined, as well as the possible pretreatment of energy supply for each material that is required. Then, the resistance and durability properties will be determined through different tests by thermally characterizing their non-stationary behavior, to see the persistence of these properties with aging.

In addition, since comfort has always been a complex issue because it is partially subjective and depends on individual opinions and expectations, a measurement tool will be developed to quantify the characteristics of thermal comfort. It is necessary to identify the key factors that affect thermal comfort and produce a system of parameters that can be measured.

Project Number: 21300031
Grant Agreement: IMDEEA / 2013/75
Duration: From 01/01/1900 to 31/12/2014

Coordinated in AIDIMME by: BELLVER PEREZ, JUAN MANUEL
R&D Line: TO BE DETERMINED

RESULTS OBTAINED

Year 2013: The synthesis and characterization of the phase change polymers developed for the project has been completed.
Likewise, nano/micro/macro capsules have been developed and analyzed, in order to verify how PCMs behave when isolated in a polymeric material.
Nanomicelles or micromicelles have been incorporated into different materials with applications in the furniture sector.
